Royal Mail - Industrial Action
The Royal Mail has issued an update this morning on the planned industrial action, which will disrupt UK postal services over the next few weeks, and which may delay magazines that we send to you. Hopefully, we'll have minimal disruption to our distribution efforts. For more info on the strikes read this. Meanwhile, Issue 2 of Ocean Paddler is coming along nicely. We're still nearly 3 weeks away from it reaching the shops, but for us it goes to print next week so there's a huge amount of behind the scenes activity going on; pages to be designed, words to be proofed, etc, and meanwhile more Issue 1's to send out in the post.

The mag's in the post..
After a few hectic days, all the magazines are now in the post. All subscriptions were sent out on Saturday - first class to UK addresses - we were hoping that the UK one's would have arrived by now, but it seems there might be a delay in the posting resulting from last friday's postal strike (Thanks Posties!). Shop copies have been sent today, so hopefully Parcel Force will deliver the majority of them by/on this coming friday. Most of the Scotland shop copies are being delivered by Ollie Bray, who volunteered to deliver them on his way back from Weymouth to Edinburgh - so a big thank you to Ollie! I'm now an expert in filling out customs forms for Canada & Eire. If you're holding back until you see it in the flesh, then you should be able to check out your local canoe shop this coming weekend (though check our list of shops stocking Ocean Paddler magazine as believe it or not, not all shops selling sea kayaks in the UK want to stock it!) If you're local shop doesn't have copies but wants to have them please point them in our direction.

First Picture
Here's a quick first picture of Ocean Paddler magazine being read by a friend (who's a non-paddler and has bought it!). So far, the response from everyone has been fantastic. Mostly non-paddlers, it's generated a lot of enthusiastic comments from them, especially the look and feel of the magazine and particularly the photography contained within it. Rich and I are very pleased with how it looks. Despite having both seen every page when being designed, and having read every word many times, we've both been blown away with how great the finished product is. Hopefully, it's everything we want it to be - a magazine that proudly shows of sea kayaking at its best and which paddlers will proudly show off to their non-paddling friends, and a magazine that attracts non-paddlers into the world of sea kayaking. Please let us know, your comments are appreciated!

It's Arrived!
I've just tried to phone Rich, who answered the phone saying could he call me back in a few minutes, as he's unloading the printer's lorry! Excellent news, with luck, we'll get some shots of it on here soon (think proud parents showing off new baby).. All we have to do is stuff envelopes and package shop copies..

Ocean Paddling around the Globe!
In readiness for tomorrow's arrival of several thousand magazines, I've just finished sticking address labels to envelopes so that we can dispatch the magazine as soon as the British Royal Mail workers finish their current 24 hour strike. I was amazed at the number of countries to which subscription copies of the magazine will be sent - all recieved before we'd even produced the first issue. As well as all corners of the UK, we already have magazines going to France, Denmark, Sweden, the US, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Norway, Iceland, Australia, Germany, Argentina, Canada, Finland and Spain. The other thing that struck me was the how many names I recognised from the many subscribers that have already taken up our offer. Many of the names, I've never met, but have heard of, or read their blogs, etc. The world is getting smaller all the time..

Issue #001 has left the building..
That's right, our very first issue has now left us, and gone to the print shop. It'll be a nervous 7 day wait until next friday, when we hope a large lorry will deliver us our first issue in print! There's a lot in it, and we've worked hard to make it look visually very exciting. This month's issue contains (amongst other things), articles from Justine Curvengen, Brian Wilson, Douglas Wilcox, Kevin Mansell to name a few, and an interview with Jeff Allen. P & H gave us the new Cetus to review, and we've also got our hands on some Aquabound paddles, Yak and Palm spraydecks, and Rich has gorged himself on a self-heating curry - all for your sake he tells me! For more detail on the first issue, including some sneak preview shots of how it looks, take a look here. We hope you enjoy it, and cheesy as it sounds - if you do, tell your friends, and if you don't tell us.. Right, I'm off to have a lie-down in a darkened room..
